Be the change that you want to see

"I have the highest admiration for young people and I believe very strongly that they are dreamers, they are idealists, they believe it is possible to make poverty history and to have a world without war and where there is no hunger."

"I want to be able to enable young people to change the world and to make the world the place that God wants it to become."

I remember those words of Mahatma Gandhi who said: "Be the change you want to see in the world." My prayer is that young people will be inspired and enabled to be that change.

The Archbishop of York Youth Trust has been set up to help and motivate young people to be leaders of change in their local communities. The Youth Trust is geared up to enable people up to the age of 25 in the North of England, from Chester to the Scottish Borders.

Part of the Youth Trust's work will focus upon areas of economic deprivation, through providing opportunities to help young people develop their leadership potential. It will focus on fostering leadership skills and initiative amongst the young, especially where young Christians are working alongside others in the service of the common good.

The Trustees of the Archbishop of York Youth Trust are delighted to announce the appointment of Robin Rolls, currently Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Leicester, as the Director of the Youth Trust.

Robin brings 20 years' experience in youth ministry. Before his present role as Director of Youth Ministry for Leicester Diocese, he served as Youth Officer for the Diocese of Birmingham. His vision is for empowering young people to make a difference in their community, rooted in a growing faith in Christ.

Robin said. ' I am thrilled and excited by the challenge of working with the Archbishop of York Youth Trust to empower young people to make a difference. Young people are a not a problem to be solved – they are God's precious gift to us. And I am particularly delighted to be returning home to Yorkshire!'

The Archbishop of York, the Most Revd Dr John Sentamu, said, 'So far the Youth Trust has made some good progress, helping young people to be the change they want to see in the world. But now, with Robin's appointment, we are going to have lift-off! May God bless the work of the Trust in bringing hope to young people and their communities across the north of England.'
