About Margaret Sentamu
Born and raised in Uganda, East Africa, Margaret Sentamu read Literature in English at Makerere University, Kampala and taught for a short while before coming to the UK in the early 1970s.
She took time out to raise the family and worked on a voluntary basis mainly for the church and church-related mission agencies.
For a number of years she was on the staff of the Archbishops' Council heading up the Recruitment and Selection process for trainee clergy. From there she was appointed Principal Consultant and Head of Diversity at Odgers Ray & Berndtson, an International executive search firm. Margaret is currently working freelance as a diversity and recruitment consultant in the private, public and third Sector.
Margaret brings a breadth of experience from serving on various governing bodies and councils and as a trustee of a number of charities, including Traidcraft plc. She understands what makes for good governance and effective leadership, and the benefits of embracing difference and enabling full participation at all levels.
Margaret's interests are mainly in the areas of health, education and alleviating poverty, particularly in the Global South. Both she and the Archbishop are enrolled members of the Mothers Union which is about demonstrating the Christian faith in action by the transformation of communities worldwide through the nurture of the family in its many forms. She has an MA in Adult Education with Theology and is keenly sought out as a public speaker.
